DESCRIPTION

Dear members of the SAC Association,

We are delighted to invite you to another cultural event organised by the Swiss Algerian Community Association, in partnership with the Dzaïr association, which brings together Algerian students in Switzerland.

The event will take place at EPFL, room ELA1, on Saturday 01 November from 6.30pm.

On this occasion, we will have the honour of screening one of the most important films in the history of committed cinema:

The Battle of Algiers (1966), directed by Gillo Pontecorvo.

This masterpiece, which won a prize at the Venice Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar, traces the decisive hours of the Algerian War of Independence, in the heart of the city of Algiers, with deeply moving intensity. Directed in a strikingly realistic style, it remains an essential reference, acclaimed for its aesthetic force as much as for its historical and political significance.

This event will be an opportunity to (re)discover this iconic film, to reflect on its ever-relevant message, and to share a moment of remembrance and conviviality.

PROGRAMME FOR THE EVENING

  • 6.30pm: Welcome and opening of the room
  • 6.35pm: Welcome speech (5 minutes)
  • 6.40pm: Showing of the film The Battle of Algiers
